In times of uncertainty, it is tempting to drift from Jesus’s mission and to wait until everything “settles down.” And if there was ever an “unsettled” year, it was 2020.

Yet in the midst of great uncertainty, our leadership fasted and prayed about our BLESS campaign. We decided to move forward with creating a more welcoming environment at our building, strategically impacting our city and our world, and strengthening our financial foundations for future ministry.

BLESS is a two-year, $1.7 million capital campaign that will enable Five Oaks to create a more welcoming environment in our space, bless our city and our world, and build a stronger financial foundation. The combination of these three initiatives is the catalyst that will change how our church can be a blessing to our congregation, community, and world.

Why now? It’s tempting in this time of Covid to feel like we should wait. Our staff, elders, board, and campaign team asked that exact question–should we even do a campaign now? As a group, we took a week of fasting and prayer to listen for direction from God. After that week of reflection, it became clear that waiting was not the answer. There are so many things we can do NOW.

Our focus will be three-fold: creating a more welcoming and inviting environment for anyone who will attend, strategically impacting our city and our world, and strengthening our financial foundations.

How long is the BLESS campaign?

It runs for 26-months ending in January 31, 2023.

Who are the strategic impact partners that will receive donations?

Five percent of all donations to the campaign will be strategically targeted to make an impact in our local and global missions and compassion efforts. A committee will be formed to determine the most strategic partnerships for the donations. For more detail OR to join the committee, contact Kevin Johnson at kjohnson@fiveoakschurch.com .

How do I give to the BLESS campaign?

There are three ways to give to the BLESS campaign:

1. Visit fiveoaks.church and click on the GIVE tab in the far right corner. Select “BLESS campaign” from the pull-down menu when making your donation.

2. Mail a check to Five Oaks Church at 4416 Radio Drive/Woodbury, MN 55129 and put “BLESS campaign” in the note section of a check.

3. Place a check or cash donation in the offering boxes at Five Oaks church. Please make a notation with your donation that it is for the campaign.

For questions regarding your donation, please contact Dave Casmer at dcasmer@fiveoakschurch.org .

As the monies come in for the Bless campaign, will we start work on some of the projects before JAN 2023?

Yes. As monies are received, the intention is to put those to work as soon as practically possible based on the priorities that have been established and approved by the governing board for the BLESS campaign.

Is it important to know which time period the funds will be given?

It is helpful to know which time period the funds will be given because it provides an ability for church staff to plan the deployment of those funds and know when they may be available. The church though won't make any irrevocable commitments until the funds are actually received.

Why are we planning to use carpet in the commons when that just needs to be replaced every few years?  Is there another option for materials such as EVP which would stand up to wear and tear much longer?

The vision behind the updating the flooring in the entry is to create a more inviting, welcoming and versatile entry. The current concrete floors are slippery when wet and require rugs that are unsightly and pose a trip hazard as well. The addition of carpeting designed for entryways in this area will eliminate slippery floors, the need for rugs, and will also transition seamlessly to the carpet that will be updated at the same time in the Worship Center Overflow/Commons area near the Family Resource Center. Using an EVP (or LVT) as an alternative would have similar challenges as the current concrete floor.  Carpet is a more welcoming surface for our initial impression to guests.

Will the commons refresh include the plans to move the Acorn Cafe into the current room 101 space?

The current plans for the commons update do not include moving the Acorn Cafe into Rm. 101 at this time.
