Weekend of November 19+20

Annual Congregational meeting this Sunday at 4 pm

Join us this Sunday, November 20, at 4 pm for our annual Congregational meeting. This is your chance to learn about the ministry year and what’s ahead for our church next year. Members, we need your voice and your vote.  All members and regular attenders are welcome for this important, yet brief meeting. We'll start with worship at 4 pm. Childcare available during the meeting for kids ages birth through grade 5. Dinner will be served after the meeting — your children are welcome!  This is a great opportunity for fellowship, food, and gaining a big picture look from our church leadership about our plans for 2017. Hope to see you there!  Show up hungry.

Meeting Agenda:

Proposed by-law change up for vote at the Annual Congregational Meeting
We will be voting on a by-law change at the Congregational Meeting on November 20 at 4 pm. This by-law change can be read on the Five Oaks website at fiveoaks.church/governing-board-elders. Copies of it are also available at the Information Center (formerly Guest Services).

Kids Hope USA giving tree
The Kids Hope USA program is teaming with Woodbury Elementary to provide Christmas gifts to families in need at that school.  Please pick a gift tag from the tree standing by the Impact wall starting November 25+26.  Please return the gift and the tag from the tree to the Info Center at Five Oaks by December 11.

Find your serving ‘zone’
If you already serve in some capacity at Five Oaks, you know when it’s the right fit: you grow in this role, and our church body benefits from that contagiousness.  When you serve, it’s because of you that we can bring the story of God to life each week.

Finding the right serving fit may mean you try a few areas on for size — that’s OK!  If you are looking to start serving but aren’t sure where to serve, consider trying out a new serving role or ministry for Christmas. We always need extra hands and hearts at Christmas time with several additional worship services. Another great way to help at Christmas time is to consider serving in a new area with your whole family, or with your small group.

This weekend at Five Oaks you may pick up a SERVE brochure at the Ministry Cart labeled ‘Family.’ You may fill that out and drop it in the offering box on your way out of the Worship Center. Or you may email Jennifer Clemens, our Serve Coordinator, at jclemens@fiveoakschurch.org.  She will contact you and walk you through the process to begin serving at Five Oaks.

Household items needed for The Dwelling Place
Women’s Ministry is organizing a household items drive for The Dwelling Place, a home for women and children of domestic abuse. The Dwelling Place needs cleaning supplies and other household items. Please pick up the list of needs at the Women’s Ministry Cart; all donated items are due to Five Oaks by November 30.

Lost something?
Odds are, it’s in the Lost and Found at the Info Center. Our Lost and Found is brimming with items such as sweatshirts, kids’ Bibles, earbuds, sunglasses…the list goes on. Please stop by and claim what is yours. All unclaimed items will be donated November 27.

Coffee House Jr.
Hey kids, grades 1-5, join us at Five Oaks on December 2, 6:30 — 8 pm, for a night of Christmas fun! Live music, cookie decorating a hot cocoa bar, and other fun activities await!  Parents, please sigh up your students with Rhiannon at rrutledge@fiveoakschurch.org.

Christmas Parent Workshop
Parents, mark your calendar for another Christmas Parent Workshop presented by Tree House Children’s Ministry. This workshop will be full of ideas on how to make the most of your time with family during the Christmas season. Please join us during either the 9:15 or 11 am service on December 4. Room 101. No need to RSVP; we’ll see you there!

Is your child interested in baptism?
Tree House Children’s Ministry is hosting a class for any children who are interested in learning more about baptism.  Elementary children and their parents/guardians are invited to attend this class on December 11, 9:15, in room 105.  Attending the class will help you learn more about this important milestone in your child’s faith journey, but attending will not commit you to getting baptized.  Please email Cindy Yarrington, cyarrington@fiveoakschurch.org  with number of people attending by December 7.

Rooted Women Christmas event: “In the Stillness”
Join us for our Christmas event on Thursday, December 15, 7pm.  We will be looking at the quiet moments in the Christmas story and how we can create more stillness in our own lives.   It will be an evening of rest, fellowship, food (appetizers and dessert) and carols.  Tickets are $10 per person, available for purchase at the Ministry Cart in the Commons at church, or by emailing women@fiveoakschurch.org. Please purchase tickets by December 11.
