Celebrating Baptism

Baptism is an incredible step in our spiritual journey. It is the outward expression of our inward decision to follow Jesus. In baptism we identify with Jesus, and we identify with the church. As a community of people who follow Jesus, celebrating baptism is a part of how we celebrate following him together. As we celebrate those who will be baptized, we also celebrate the community of God that we are a part of. Join us at Five Oaks on July 30, at 10 am in our backyard to celebrate those taking the step of baptism.

Summer Baptism Celebration Coming Soon!

Make plans now to join us at Five Oaks on July 30th for our outdoor baptism service. Bring lawn chairs and/or a picnic blanket and some sunscreen. Get ready to worship and celebrate those in our church family who are taking the step of baptism. Sunday, July 30, 10 am, in the Five Oaks backyard. Also, look forward to an all-church picnic and lawn games following the service. Bring a picnic for your family, and Five Oaks will provide drinks and dessert. Please note that this baptism service will be our ONLY service that weekend.

Karen Backpack drive

It is time for our annual Backpack Drive to benefit the Karen and other refugee families. Many of these families do not have the resources to purchase school supplies for their children. The Karen VBS team will deliver the backpacks on August 9th. Backpack supply lists are available at the impact table. Our goal is to fill 150 backpacks! Filled backpacks may be returned to Five Oaks by July 22/23 & July 29/30. For more information contact Kristen Bryant, bryantkristen@hotmail.com

Karen VBS volunteers

Are you looking for an opportunity to serve this summer? We would love to have you be a part of the Karen VBS, August 6-8, 6:00-7:30 pm. This is a great opportunity where you can serve as a family. All ages are welcome. It takes many volunteers to put this on. We share a lesson, sing, have a craft, snack, and play games. We meet at the Brittany Apartments on Larpenteur. Contact Kristen Bryant for more information, bryantkristen@hotmail.com.

GOT SUMMER? GOT JESUS? GOT TIME?

We are still keenly interested in your help with children’s ministry this summer. As our regular volunteers take a break, this is an opportunity for you to step in and serve for a weekend or three this summer — and try out a new serving area. A great chance to build relationships and engage with kids! Lessons and activities are provided. Interested? Please email Cindy Yarrington, cyarrington@fiveoakschurch.org.

Pray for our missionaries

Join us this Sunday, July 23, for a chance to pray for all of our missionaries. 10:15 am in room 102. Refreshments will be served.

Coming this Fall: Challenge Silent Auction

This October in Student Ministry we will be holding our Student Challenge Silent Auction. At the Challenge Conference students will get the opportunity to learn and hear from amazing speakers, worship with amazing worship artists, hangout with each other and their leader, serve the community, and spend time learning about and connecting with Jesus. In order to make this trip happen, we hold the Student Challenge Silent Auction. This year we are seeking donations for the auction. These donations can include stays at cabins, sport team tickets, hotel stays, auto/home repairs, unique experiences like fishing, activities for families, electronics, etc. We would also like to partner with our local five oaks businesses to include in the silent auction. If you have an item you would like to donate please email Martha at myoung@fiveoakschurch.org. We appreciate your support!

Journeymen will complete a summer study by Andy Stanley

None of us sets out to be like everybody else, but it happens. Life begins to squeeze us into a mold until one day we wake up feeling trapped. Unfortunately many people think the answer is to run away, but they only end up making the same bad decisions over and over again. How do you break the cycle and break out of the crowd? Andy Stanley will renovate your thinking by exposing you to four core beliefs that have the power to change the trajectory of your life.

In this six-part study, called Breakaway, Stanley illustrates how our core beliefs influence our decisions, which dictate the outcomes of our lives. Join us July 15-August 19.  Doors open at 6:30 am for pastries, coffee, and maybe even fruit. Study starts at 7 am.  For more info and to register, please email journeymen@fiveoakschurch.org.

Awaken East coming again

This past weekend we welcomed Daniel Lukas and co. here at Five Oaks for one of their Five Oaks “takeover” services. Five Oaks is partnering with Awaken in this church plant. Dan and his launch team have been preparing their hearts, minds and physical space to officially launch Awaken East at the Maplewood Community Center in September. They have summer preview services at Maplewood Community Center on July 30 and August 27, at 10 am, plus one more Five Oaks “takeover” service on August 5+6, and a few other events to focus their efforts. Please continue to pray for Daniel, his launch team, and his family on this journey. We look forward to God moving hearts and transforming lives at Awaken East!

FamilyMeans Caregiver Support Program looking for volunteer help

Do you have 4-8 hours a month to offer relief to a caregiver? Those who provide continual care for a loved one occasionally need a break but cannot leave their loved one home alone. Volunteers are needed to step in for companionship and supervision — not for medical cares of any kind.  This role involves talking with the patient, watching TV with them, playing cards or doing a puzzle with them, looking at photos with them, tinkering in the garage with them, going for a ride with them, etc.  Help is needed in the following cities at this time:  Cottage Grove, Woodbury, Oakdale, Stillwater, Oak Park Heights, Marine on St. Croix, and Forest Lake. Day, evening, weekend hours needed for children, adults and seniors.  For more info, please contact Dianne Vierling, dvierling@familymeans.org, or call 651-789-4055.
