Ready for school to start?
Probably not. As in, not even close to ready. Ack!
But soon you’ll see it creeping in ... back to school ads, supply lists, all of it. And soon, you'll start buying school supplies to help your child prepare for the new school year.
We want to help YOU feel ready for the new school year by giving you some back-to-school resources that will make the transition smoother, plus help you continue to deepen your relationship with your child.
Stop by the Family Resource Center between services this weekend (or next weekend if you're out of town this weekend!) to check out these free resources. It may be too soon to pick out notebooks and pencil cases, but it's never too soon to start conversations about the transitions ahead.
Let’s pray for our high schoolers on mission
Fifteen students from Five Oaks are helping to create change in our world right now – as you read this – during their mission trip in Louisville from July 10-16. They are ministering to refugees in partnership with Antioch Church. Join with us as we pray that God would accomplish his purposes in and through Sam Benson, Lauren Burquest, Samuel Dunbar, Mia Evans, Jackson Grosse, Abby Gunderson, Leah Hawley, Anna Olson, Joel Redmann, Riley Redmann, Max Rolig, Steven Selbitschka, Benjamin Standfest, Leah Widerski, Elianna Zimmerman, and their leaders.
Follow @fiveoaks_students on Instagram to get daily updates while they are gone!
Refreshing ways to experience Scripture
Sometimes we just need a change of pace to help in our engagement with reading and reflecting on Scripture. Here are some helpful tools: DailyLife, our daily emailed engagement on Scripture; Daily Audio Bible, an audio bible in a year app; Pray as You Go, an orthodox scripture reflection app in audio form; or YouVersion, with many daily Bible reading plans. Download the apps or message Jonathan Haage on Realm to get links. Or, you may click here to email Jonathan.
Students: One way for your entire family to serve people in need!
Summer is filled with all sorts of fun family traditions. Find a new tradition this summer for your ENTIRE family by joining Five Oaks Students at Union Gospel Mission on July 24 to serve meals to people in need. We are meeting at their facility at 4:50 pm and serving food from 5-7pm. This is a free event, but sign up on Realm so we know who is coming!
You can ask Pastor Henry that question
If you’re new here, you may wonder how best to get connected. We have a simple first step, called Pizza with the Pastor. This one-hour lunch with Pastor Henry will allow you to ask any questions about Five Oaks and get you started connecting with others. FREE childcare and a FREE pizza and salad lunch. Sunday, July 21, after the second service. To RSVP, please click here to email Kelsey Vang.
Baptized in faith
Have you taken a new life in Christ and are ready to be baptized? Our next baptism weekend is on July 27 + 28 at all services. We would like to meet with you and/or your child before this event if you/your child want to get baptized and have not yet attended a baptism class. Please click here to email Cindy Yarrington, and she will reach out to set up a meeting with one of our pastors or directors.
We all need a mentor
As growing Christ followers, we all step through seasons of needing someone to mentor us, someone who’s walked the path before us and gained wisdom in facing life’s challenges. We have mentoring programs for both men and women. These programs both run September-May. Interested in applying to be mentored? Please click here to email Jonathan Haage.
141 impact journey opportunities completed!
Thank you! Since the launch of the Impact Journey challenge in March, Five Oakers have completed 99 “Ready,” 25 “Set,” and 17 “Go” events. “Ready” is giving, “Set” is initial engagement, and “Go” is ongoing ministry. We can help you on the Impact Journey – a mission to the needy, the vulnerable, the foreigner, and those who have never heard the gospel. If you aren’t involved but want to be, pick up a passport at the Impact Center this weekend between services.
Airport pick-ups and more
Ever wondered how you can impact China? Hundreds of Chinese students will arrive in the United States in a few weeks to begin studying at the University of Minnesota. You could be the first to welcome them by picking them up at the airport. Or, you could also help them get settled by provide housing for a few days, attending the welcome picnic, or befriending them. If interested, please email impact@fiveoakschurch.org or visit hcchinese.org.
Are you heading up north?
Although it would be nice to move to the lake for the summer, most of us must keep our “day job” and put food on the table back home. If you’re in town on the weekends this summer, we’d love your help in Five Oaks Kids! Even just 1-2 weekends will help our team! Please click here to email Kelly Bauman with your availability.
Cuba construction & ESL teams needed (Impact Passport “GO” Opportunity)
Have you ever felt frustrated about what is going on in the world, yet helpless to do anything about it? Creating change is within your reach. God is moving powerfully in Cuba, and we can help you go! Provide practical help to ministry leaders by joining the Construction Team October 3-12. We will also have ESL opportunities on this trip! Interested? Please email impact@fiveoakschurch.org with questions or more info.
COMMUNITY NEWS
Helping teens in Inver Grove Heights
How would you like to help students in a nearby community who don’t have enough essentials to feel comfortable this summer? The Inver Grove Heights School District is collecting items for their clothing closet. They are most in need of gently used clothing, feminine products, nonperishable food items, and reusable bags that are not see-through. If you have some of these kinds of items, please contact Five Oaker Abby McHenry at 651-724-3907, or email her at mchenry@isd199.org.
