Weekend of June 29+30

We love our volunteers!

On any given weekend, 90+ volunteers show up early and/or stay late in any area of the church to serve our people: teaching kids, running the sound board in worship, serving coffee and bagels, singing or playing in the worship band, setting up communion stations, and so on. To thank these folks for their dedication, Five Oaks hosted a free Volunteer Movie Night at Marcus Cinema last Monday. 181 Five Oaks volunteers and their families enjoyed a private showing of Toy Story 4, popcorn and drinks included! Perhaps better than the adventures of Woody and Buzz, however, was watching families and friends from Five Oaks gathered, enjoying time together in community. Thank you, volunteers!

We all need a mentor
As growing Christ followers, we all step through seasons of needing someone to mentor us, someone who’s walked the path before us and gained wisdom in facing life’s challenges. We have mentoring programs for both men and women. These programs both run September-May. Interested in applying to be mentored? Please click here to email Jonathan Haage.

Family worship next weekend
We will have a Family Worship Weekend on July 6+7. Kids who have completed grades 1-5 will join their parents in regular family worship. We’ll have activity bags available outside the worship center for families who would like to use them during the service. We will have programing available in Five Oaks Kids for children aged birth through completed kindergarten.

What’s going on this summer in youth group?
Summer with Five Oaks Students is in full swing and still plenty of ways for you to get involved! In July, we’ll study God’s word, have a few parties, including an outdoor movie night (weather permitting) on July 10, and serve at Union Gospel Mission on the 24th! For more specific information on how your whole family can get involved, click here to email Henry Michael.

141 impact journey opportunities completed!
Thank you! Since the launch of the Impact Journey challenge in March, Five Oakers have completed 99 “Ready,” 25 “Set,” and 17 “Go” events.  “Ready” is giving, “Set” is initial engagement, and “Go” is ongoing ministry. We can help you on the Impact Journey – a mission to the needy, the vulnerable, the foreigner, and those who have never heard the gospel.  If you aren’t involved but want to be, pick up a passport at the Impact Center.

Airport pick-ups and more
Ever wondered how you can impact China? Hundreds of Chinese students will arrive in the United States in a few weeks to begin studying at the University of Minnesota. You could be the first to welcome them by picking them up at the airport. Or, you could also help them get settled by provide housing for a few days, attending the welcome picnic, or befriending them. If interested, please email impact@fiveoakschurch.org or visit  hcchinese.org.

Are you heading up north?
Although it would be nice to move to the lake for the summer, most of us must keep our “day job” and put food on the table back home. If you’re in town on the weekends this summer, we’d love your help in Five Oaks Kids! Even just 1-2 weekends will help our team! Please click here to email Kelly Bauman with your availability.

Cuba construction & ESL teams needed (Impact Passport “GO” Opportunity)
Have you ever felt frustrated about what is going on in the world, yet helpless to do anything about it? Creating change is within your reach. God is moving powerfully in Cuba, and we can help you go! Provide practical help to ministry leaders by joining the Construction Team October 3-12. We will also have ESL opportunities on this trip!  Interested? Write “Cuba” & your email on your communication card, or email impact@fiveoakschurch.org

Community News

Helping teens in Inver Grove Heights
How would you like to help students in a nearby community who don’t have enough essentials to feel comfortable this summer? The Inver Grove Heights School District is collecting items for their clothing closet. They are most in need of gently used clothing, feminine products, nonperishable food items, and reusable bags that are not see-through. If you have some of these kinds of items, please contact Five Oaker Abby McHenry at 651-724-3907, or email her at mchenry@isd199.org.
