Make room in your holiday hustle for what matters most
Put a halt on that hectic holiday hustling! Join us for Family Advent services on December 1, 8 & 15 at 4:30 pm. We’ll prepare our hearts, and make room in our lives for Jesus, as we gather for meaningful advent traditions, an impact project, crafts, games, and a hot cocoa bar!
At our first Advent service, on December 1, we'll be led in worship by our Five Oaks Kids Choir for two songs. On your way out each week, you’ll receive family devotionals and activities that you can use throughout the Advent season.
Fellowship and fun for all ages! Invite your friends and neighbors! No need to sign up — just show up.
Women’s Christmas Crafturday: registration closes Sunday
Need a few more Christmas decorations? Or handmade gifts? Or just a fun morning out in your yoga pants? Women of all ages, who are comfortable wielding a glue gun and scissors, are welcome to attend! It's a good event to invite your friends to or attend as a small group! Saturday, December 7, 9:30 am – 12 pm. Click here to register!
Celebrate with us at the congregational meeting this Sunday
Five Oaks turns 30 this year! At our congregational meeting on Sunday, November 24, 4 pm, we’ll take a look back over the years through a short video, and we’ll also have some time of worship and a look ahead at where God is taking our ministries in the coming year. Elder and board candidate bios, as well as proposed by-law changes, are available for your review at the Welcome Center. Child care available through grade 5.
Saturdays are beckoning...
If you love the silly things kids say, or the wide-eyed way they see the world, you likely would enjoy helping our youngest Five Oakers fall in love with Jesus. We still have several volunteer needs in Five Oaks Kids, especially on Saturdays. Please click here to email Kelly Bauman if you are interested in helping, even just once a month.
Loving Your City’s Children: The Giving Tree (Impact Passport “Ready” Opportunity)
You may be surprised to hear that many families in Woodbury are unable to buy Christmas gifts for their kids. Five Oaks teams with Kids Hope USA to help your family bridge that gap for children at Woodbury Elementary. Stop by the KHUSA Giving Tree in the commons starting November 30 to pick up a gift tag – and to hear about other ways you can help. Return wrapped gifts & their tags to church by December 15.
Manhood restored
“Being a man” in our world, and even sometimes in the church, can be confusing. The Bible story offers clarity when we turn to the story it tells, not just the instructions it provides. Men, come to our Men’s Summit, Jan 24-26, 2020, to explore how the story of God informs our place in the story as men. Visit www.fiveoaks.church/summit to register. Early bird pricing available until the end of 2019.
Thanksgiving hosting: (Impact “set” opportunity)
Ever wondered how you could impact China? It’s so far away and so closed to the gospel -- or is it? We can put China within your reach. We are again partnering with the Hospitality Center for Chinese to host Chinese students and their families for Thanksgiving. Interested? Visit www.hcchinese.org for more info.
Calling all adoptive and foster moms!
Welcome to Embrace-Woodbury South! At Embrace, you’ll meet other moms who are on a similar adoption/foster journey. You’ll experience spiritual, emotional, and practical support for adoptive, foster, and ‘waiting’ moms. We will also make time to learn more about caring for our vulnerable children, along with learning to better care for ourselves and our families. We meet in room 105 on the second Thursday of each month, 6:30-8 pm. Questions? Please email Tammy Placzek at the_plaz@comcast.net.
Save the date: Cuba 2020 (Impact Passport “GO” opportunity)
Would you like to help create real change in a chaotic world? We are making plans for multiple service trips to Cuba in 2020. We have experienced partners, but they need your help. As you make plans for 2020, please prayerfully consider an Impact trip to Cuba. For details on specific opportunities, contact Dave Baar via Realm or email (davebaar@comcast.net).
