Weekend of June 20+21

GatheringAgain-Slide3.jpg

We’re getting ready for you

We’re excited to share with you that it’s time for us to gather together again in worship at church! While it will indeed look very different from how we have worshiped together in the past, we’re SO looking forward to seeing you again very soon!

Because everyone is at a different point of readiness, we will continue to offer our online worship (weekly recorded Five Oaks at Home) in conjunction with our in-person worship services. Community is so important in God’s eyes, so we are creating community to meet you where you’re at.

Here is a high-level snapshot of what to expect in the next couple of weeks in terms of worship:

June 21

  • Five Oaks at Home, available 8 am

June 28

  • Five Oaks at Home, available at 8 am

  • In-person test worship service with staff, governing board and elders

July 5

  • Five Oaks at Home, available at 8 am

  • In-person worship service at 11 am. Advance online reservations required. More details and registration how-to’s are coming in the next week! Stay tuned for the specifics.

Questions in the meantime? Please email office@fiveoakschurch.org.

Five Oaks Students Junior/Senior Prom THIS SATURDAY

Join us for a night of socially-distanced fun, celebration, and dancing! Park in the back parking lot and make your way to the dance floor on the patio outside the back doors. The event, planned by the Prom Committee, will include snacks, yard games, and a fun photo booth. (We’ll also have a bonfire and snacks, so you may want to bring a change of clothes so your “fancies” don’t smell like you went camping in them!) June 20, 8-11 pm in the Five Oaks backyard. Admission: FREE! (A note from Henry Michael — dressing up is encouraged, but don’t let that deter you from joining the fun!) All Five Oaks juniors and seniors are invited, and they may bring a friend if the friend comes WITH the Five Oaks student. Questions? Call Lauren, 763-321-0147.

Ways you can help
Our urban churches and for our global Impact partners in Haiti, Cuba and Jordan are experiencing tremendous need, and many of them were living “on the edge” before the pandemic. Eighty percent unemployment rates is not unusual both in their churches and communities. Add to that the recent unrest in Minneapolis and St. Paul, and it’s even more important for us as the church to love our city and our world.

You may be wondering what you can do to get involved from your corner of the world. This summer we’re offering three simple ways you can jump in:

• with our urban partners
• with our global partners
• with our missionaries

Whether you want to donate or volunteer, several of these opportunities put you in direct contact with people  who have specific needs and are often facing oppression or being marginalized in the midst of these crises. As you develop friendships with these people, you see their perspective and gain understanding.

Five Oaks Students! Welcome back open houses on June 27
After so many months apart, we can’t wait to see our high school friends again! Join us for our Open House/Summer Kick-off in the Five Oaks backyard on June 27. Middle schoolers: join us from 3-6 pm. High schoolers, join us from 6-9 pm. Games, snacks and a bonfire (we’re not serving lunch or dinner, so don’t arrive STARVING!) Feel free to bring a friend! Questions? Please email Henry Michael, henrymw@fiveoakschurch.org.

Missionaries need temporary summer housing
Do you, or someone you know, have a furnished apartment or mother-in-law suite available to lease this summer? We recently received a request from a couple who needs to return on short notice from their mission work in Asia. If you know of anything that can help these long-time missionaries, please contact office@fiveoakschurch.org.

Prayer works
As you move through your day, you likely have prayers and praises on your mind. We'd love to be able to pray and praise alongside you, from our homes to yours. We have volunteers, elders and staff who pray through your prayer requests throughout the week. Please click here to get started sharing what's on your mind.
