Ways you can help from home, both here at home and across the world

We’re living in a time of tremendous need for the areas around our urban churches and for our global Impact partners in Haiti, Cuba and Jordan, most of whom were living “on the edge” before the pandemic. Eighty percent unemployment rates is not unusual both in their churches and communities. Add to that the recent unrest in Minneapolis and St. Paul, and it’s even more important for us as the church to love our city and our world.

You may be wondering what you can do to get involved from your corner of the world. This summer we’re offering three simple ways you can jump in:

• with our urban partners
• with our global partners
• with our missionaries

Whether you want to donate or volunteer, several of these opportunities put you in direct contact with people  who have specific needs and are often facing oppression or being marginalized in the midst of these crises. As you develop friendships with these people, you see their perspective and gain understanding.

Online church platform pushes “pause”

Last week we shared with you that we would be rolling out a new interactive online church platform during our Five Oaks at Home worship services starting this week. This plan is put on a temporary hold. More information coming from Pastor Henry in the next couple of days.

VBS at Home: Share the news! (Registration closes MONDAY!)
In a season when so many churches are canceling their traditional Vacation Bible School offerings, Five Oaks is excited to bring you the next best thing: Focus VBS, a virtual VBS that your kids can participate in safely from home!

Your preschoolers through preteens will have a blast as they discover how to trust in what they CAN’T see because of what they CAN see by putting the FOCUS on God and his amazing plan for us. We’ll use this week to explore four different ways we can FOCUS on God: Hear, Talk, Pray, and Live.

The fun takes place July 13-17. Each child will receive their own VBS-in-a-Box. Share the news with neighbors and friends whose kids are missing VBS this summer! Registration and more info on our website. Registration closes on June 15!

Missionaries need temporary summer housing
Do you, or someone you know, have a furnished apartment or mother-in-law suite available to lease this summer? We recently received a request from a couple who needs to return on short notice from their mission work in Asia. If you know of anything that can help these long-time missionaries, please contact office@fiveoakschurch.org.

Looking ahead: Five Oaks Guys’ Giveaway on social media
Hey Dudes and Dads! Father’s Day is just two weeks away, and to honor all of our dads, father figures, uncles, and guys who might look like dads, we’re hosting a giveaway on Facebook and Instagram. Every day during the week of June 15-19, we’ll hold a drawing for cool prizes that only dudes will dig. Between now and then, be sure to follow Five Oaks on Facebook and Instagram so you’re ready to enter our drawings each day.

Prayer works
As you move through your day, you likely have prayers and praises on your mind. We'd love to be able to pray and praise alongside you, from our homes to yours. We have volunteers, elders and staff who pray through your prayer requests throughout the week. Please click here to get started sharing what's on your mind.
