Jingle Jam to kick off our Advent Season at Five Oaks

The Advent season is right around the corner, and while all holidays may look different this year, Jesus is one constant we can count on. We’re excited to usher in the Advent season with an Advent-urous night of fun for the entire family at our all-new Simply Christmas Jingle Jam event on November 29 at 4:30 pm. We’ll explore the meaning of Advent at this event, and share some laughs along the way. We're encouraging all to wear a Christmas sweater, and the ugliest sweater will win a prize! Click here to RSVP for Jingle Jam. Space is limited, so don’t miss out!

Simply Christmas Jingle Jam will kick off our Sunday afternoon Family Advent services on December 6, 13, and 20, also at 4:30 pm. With the theme of Let There Be Light, our Advent services will feature lots of family- and Covid-friendly ways to explore Advent and prepare our hearts for Christmas. You'll be able to catch the fun and worship in-person or online this year. Click here to get all the details for our Advent services, including RSVP’s for each week and access to the services online.

This weekend we celebrate baptisms
Baptism is a time of celebration in the church, as it is an outward expression of our salvation. Join us as we celebrate at both services today!

9:00 service: Noah and Berea Nicholson
Drew Hamilton

11:00 service: Rhyan Brewer

Annika Burquest

Is getting baptized important?
Absolutely! Jesus modeled getting baptized, and baptism is a common theme throughout the New Testament: ‘to repent and be baptized.’ However, baptism doesn’t make you a Christ follower. It shows that you already are a believer! We’re excited to celebrate that with you at our next baptism service! Interested? Put ‘baptism’ on your communication card or email Jonathan at jhaage@fiveoakschurch.org.

Lighten the load for foster families
What if, instead of foster kids waiting for foster parents, there were foster parents waiting for foster kids? That’s a beautiful goal, so help us take a step in the right direction by showing our support for Washington County foster parents. Now through November 29, we will be collecting items for “Paper Products Christmas Tree.” Pick up a list of needed items at the ministry cart after the worship service, or click here to access the list. You may drop donations off at the ministry cart in the commons on Sunday, or drop them off in room 103 during the week. Questions? Email impact@fiveoakschurch.org.

No Five Oaks Students on November 25
Middle and high school families! We’re taking a break from our regular schedule this week (November 25) due to Thanksgiving. Enjoy the long holiday weekend with your family, and we look forward to seeing you at Five Oaks Students next Wednesday, December 2! Middle schoolers: 6-7:30; high schoolers: 7:30-9. Questions? Email Henry Michael or Kyler: henrymw@fiveoakschurch.org or kalbert@fiveoakschurch.org.

Church office closed for Thanksgiving holiday
We’ll be closed on November 26 and 27 in observance of Thanksgiving. May your holiday be a quiet and restful one this year!

Deepening students’ faith for the long haul
Research shows that faith grows and “sticks” if students have a circle of adults who invest in them around faith, purpose and calling. We’ve teamed up with Encircled, a local ministry that gives students an opportunity to grow in their strengths and partner with their circle of adults as they transition to life after high school. This spring we’ll start a new group of juniors and seniors with Encircled. If your junior or senior student is interested, or if you have other questions, please email Peg Benson, pbenson@fiveoakschurch.org.

Connect your student with new friends and caring adults
Five Oaks Students is committed to providing a place for middle and high schoolers to connect with God and one another by having fun, worshipping, and joining in small groups with godly leaders. We know joining a new group can be intimidating, and we want to make connecting in this season as easy as possible. Contact Henry M. or Kyler with any questions: henrymw@fiveoakschurch.org or kalbert@fiveoakschurch.org.
