Look who got to hang with The Rock and Lebron James...
That’s right! Almost 200 Five Oaks volunteers spent a fun and relaxing night at the movies last week, enjoying either the new release, Jungle Cruise or Space Jam 2. The Summer SERVE movie event is a special treat offered to all volunteers who serve in any capacity at Five Oaks. Getting connected with others is a wonderful reason to start serving, and it's easier than ever to get the process going. We have serving roles that occur once a month, once a week, some are do-able from home, others are more high profile on the weekend. Something for everyone! If you're interested in learning more about one of our many serve opportunities, email Jennifer Clemens, jclemens@fiveoakschurch.org.
Story of God classes begin this fall!
The Story of God will give you an overview of the entire Bible. The class will give you an opportunity to ask big questions about Scripture and help you lean into the story that God has for your life. Come join one of our 6-week classes starting up in September and October. Registrations opens August 13. Click here for more info and to register.
Volunteer once or every Wednesday with Five Oaks Students
Five Oaks Students is a growing ministry! With many students involved, and many enthusiastic and engaging adults serving, we find that we need more folks like you to jump in and help shape the lives of our students! From weekly Wednesday night roles, such as small group leaders, tech team, snack team and more, to a one-time role serving at our fall campout, we’d love to help you find a role that fits your talents. Questions? Email Kyler Albert, kalbert@fiveoakschurch.org.
Calling all middle and high school students!
In a recent sermon, Pastor Henry highlighted how serving in the church can help lead to resilient faith in young adults. Serving in Five Oaks Kids can help young adults feel more connected to the church and valued by giving of their time and talents. We also encourage young adults to serve with their friends as they make new friends and connections from serving. If you have a student who is able to serve, please put their name and “Serve/Kids” on your connect card. Questions? Email Kelly Bauman, kbauman@fiveoakschurch.org.
We’d love your help writing or editing
Do you love shepherding others and glorifying God through the written word? Do you have a collection of red markup pens always at the ready? Or have you simply been blessed by our DailyLife devotionals and would like to be a blessing in turn? If so, we invite you to write or edit as a member of our DailyLife devotional team! For more info, write email Danny Martin at dmartin@fiveoakschurch.org.

Lastly, for the first time ever, we’re going to preview a powerful sermon series we will experience this year in our weekend services and in our student ministry.

Updates to our online services
Starting August 15, (that’s this Sunday!) if you want to participate online in our entire worship service, you’ll now find it live on YouTube or on our website, Sundays at 9 am. Additionally, our on-demand service will be a shortened version including essential info and our sermon, available starting at 10:45 am on Sundays. Soon-to-be ninth graders: Join us for a high school-only bonfire
Hey families with incoming ninth graders! Your student is invited to a high school-only bonfire at church, August 25, 7-9 pm. We’ll meet in the backyard at church for casual fun and worship time together. This is a key event for the next group of ninth graders to attend as they seek to get launched into a whole new environment and phase of their story. It’s also a great time for your student to invite friends to youth group! Questions? Email Henry Michael, henrymw@fiveoakschurch.org.
Village Schools of the Bible is back!
The Bible tells one story, and we help our community see that in a six-week class called the Story of God. But, there is an incredible way to go deeper, and it’s a class called Village Schools of the Bible. This class will look at the one story from Genesis to Revelation and dig into it thoroughly over the ministry year from September through May. We will be hosting it at the church on Tuesday evenings starting this September. For more information, go to fiveoaks.church/village.
A store-bought meal can bridge an important gap
Would you like a simple way to help a foster family in Washington County? Simply purchase a store-bought ready-to-prepare meal and deliver it to a foster family about once per month. What starts out as a simple drop-off gesture can be a gateway for new friendships and possibly even some meaningful conversations down the road. Interested in more info or getting involved?
