Weekend of July 16+17

God showed up this week

In case you missed it this week, our church walls were bulging with 265 kids and 154 volunteers each day with Monumental VBS in the mornings, and FCA Sports Camp in the afternoons. Kids enjoyed worship, crafts, games and all kinds of fun while they heard about the love of Jesus and God’s greatness. Please continue to pray that the seeds that were planted this week will grow and flourish. We also want to give a huge shout out to our amazing volunteers! Without the helpful hands and hearts of our teenagers and adults, we couldn’t have put together such impactful events for our Five Oaks kids and their friends! Our staff leaders agree that watching the church family come together to serve the next generation for the kingdom of God was a huge blessing. Thank you to all who served and for all the amazing stories of impact from the week.

Have a heart for those in crisis?
New Life Family Services (NLFS) is a local organization that provides physical, emotional, and spiritual support as people face pregnancy-related circumstances. Our church has partnered with NLFS over the years, and we’d like a Five Oaks volunteer to be the liaison between our church and NLFS. This role would involved helping spread awareness, communicate NLFS needs when they arise, and be a Five Oaks ambassador to NLFS. Interested? Email Dave Baar.

Serve those experiencing homelessness
Maybe you’re interested in serving but not sure where to start? For the month of July, we are partnering with The Drawer, a local non-profit who seeks to provide underwear to those experiencing homelessness in the Twin Cities. We’ll be accepting your donations of new underwear and socks in the commons anytime during the month of July. Five Oaks has several other partnerships that would be great to serve unhoused individuals: Union Gospel Mission, Bridging, Dorothy Day, and Good in the Hood. For more info on our underwear drive or any of our ministry partners, email Dave Baar.

Youth group fun in July
Hey middle and high schoolers! Summer is in full swing, and we have big fun planned to stay connected on Wednesdays. Join us July 20—Hangout at church, 7-9 pm. July 27—Water games, 7-9 pm. (Yes, you’ll want clothes that can get wet!) These are great events for bringing a friend! Questions? Email Henry Michael.

We’d love your help in Connections!
If you enjoy helping new people feel welcomed and comfortable, you should consider joining either our Greeter Team or our Concierge Team! Both of these teams consist of greeting and welcoming, and our concierge team helps new families register their children, find classrooms, bathrooms, the Acorn Cafe, etc. We have openings on both Saturdays and Sundays, once a month. Interested or have more questions? Email Pam Hawley.

Want to lead well?
Do you love to help new people connect in relationships? Or maybe helping facilitate others’ spiritual growth? Small groups are one of  the major ways we connect with our church family and grow in our faith. If you are interested in helping lead or co-lead a small group, we would love to help you do that. We have training and resources to ensure you are equipped and prepared to lead well! Interested? Email Jonathan Haage for more info.

Young adult small group meets Sunday afternoons
Hey, 18-23-year-olds! Join us on Sundays at 4 pm for our young adult group! This group is geared toward college students who are home for the summer, students who attend college locally, or young adults who are working, taking a gap year, etc. If you missed the first meeting but still want to join this group, email Danny Martin to get all the details.

Baby snuggles on the agenda
Do you love to rock babies and play with our youngest Five Oakers? What if you knew that by filling this role in our church, you were in turn helping moms build important faith-bridging connections with other ladies? We’re currently seeking people to serve in our nursery on Wednesday mornings during Five Oaks Women’s ministry events starting in September. This is a paid position with flexibility. Interested or have questions? Email Kelly Bauman.

Partner with those in transition

Bridging is a local, nonprofit organization primarily serving the Twin Cities that provides donated furniture and household goods to families and individuals transitioning out of homelessness and poverty. We’re currently seeking a volunteer to serve as point person between Bridging and Five Oaks. Want to know what’s involved? Email Dave Baar .
