Please pray for the high schoolers at Challenge!
This week, 25 high schoolers and 4 adult leaders are headed to Kansas City for a transformative event called Challenge. This has been a staple in Five Oaks Students over the years as a deeply impactful spiritual event for everyone involved. Students will be engaging in great worship, speakers, and breakout sessions while also serving in Kansas City, growing their hearts for mission. This week while they’re gone, please pray for the students, the lives they touch, and for a continuing impact in our own community when they return.
FCA Camp: An action-packed serve opportunity
LAST CALL for high schoolers to help serve at FCA Camp, July 11-14, 1-4 pm. We’re looking for group leaders, snack team help, and sports station help, to name a few. (This is also a great credential for college and job applications!) Interested? More details and registration here.
Young adult small group meets Sunday afternoons
Hey, 18-23-year-olds! Join us on Sundays at 4 pm for our young adult group! This group is geared toward college students who are home for the summer, students who attend college locally, or young adults who are working, taking a gap year, etc. If you missed the first meeting but still want to join this group, email Danny Martin to get all the details.
Dorothy Day: Note the date change in July
If you’d like to make a difference to our neighbors in St. Paul, join us to prepare and serve a meal at the Dorothy Day Center. Dorothy Day is always the first Saturday of every other month, but July is different: Saturday, July 16, 9:30 am-1:15 pm. Interested? Email Cindy and Tim Wiant. Tim and Cindy will get back to you with confirmation of your spot on our team for this date. Volunteers need to be at least 14 years old.
Writing is cool
If you ever find yourself proofreading a restaurant menu, or if you can hardly wait to play Wordle each day, or if you simply love writing of any kind, we’d love chat with you about joining our DailyLife team as a writer or editor. This is a self-paced opportunity to serve at home. For more information, put “DL Team” on your connect card or email Danny Martin.
The doors to Cuba are opening
After several years of complete lock-down, the doors to Cuba are finally opening again. This means we have an opportunity to restart our partnership with the Los Pinos Nuevos church in Cuba. In order for that to happen, we need a Five Oaker to step forward to champion this partnership. If you speak Spanish, and God is working in your heart to use that gift for his kingdom, this ministry partnership might be a good fit. Email Dave Baar for more info.
Baby snuggles on the agenda
Do you love to rock babies and play with our youngest Five Oakers? What if you knew that by filling this role in our church, you were in turn helping moms build important faith-bridging connections with other ladies? We’re currently seeking people to serve in our nursery on Wednesday mornings during Five Oaks Women’s ministry events starting in September. This is a paid position with flexibility. Interested or have questions? Email Kelly Bauman.
Undie Sunday (or Saturday) coming soon!
Starting the weekend of July 9 & 10, we’re having a sock and underwear drive in the commons. We are partnering with The Drawer, a local non-profit who seeks to provide clean socks and underwear to those experiencing homelessness and to the underprivileged in the Twin Cities and surrounding areas. Their mission is to help provide these essential needs to those who need them the most. Be sure to drop them off in the commons anytime in the month of July. For more information, check out their website or email Dave Baar.
Help wanted: Kids Hope USA leadership
Our Kids Hope USA partnership with Woodbury Elementary spans 10+ years and has impacted the lives of over 100 kids. If you have a heart for kids, and you are looking for a leadership role that will pair your love for Jesus with your organizational and coordinating skills, please prayerfully consider joining the leadership team of this key local Impact ministry. Interested? Have questions? Please email Dave Baar.
Warm smiles are welcome!
Are you someone who loves to help others connect? As our church grows, we’re welcoming lots of new families, which means we’re looking to expand our Five Oaks Kids Greeter Team. People often comment how warm and inviting our church is, and we’d love for you to be a part of that! Interested? Please put “Greeting with Kids” on your connect card. Questions? Email Kelly Bauman.
