Weekend of October 8+9

Kids hope USA: Making a difference in Woodbury

For more than 10 years, Five Oaks has partnered with Kids Hope to provide the gift of mentorship to students at Woodbury Elementary School. A KHUSA mentor offers one hour each week to one student in need of emotional, social, and academic support beyond what s/he normally receives in the classroom and at home. Staff and parents share over and over again that the 1:1 attention and investment of a caring adult improves attitude, focus, performance, and confidence. One hour from you each week can change the trajectory of a student’s life right here in our community! Our ministry is currently recruiting mentors, prayer partners, and support for events and communication. Is God nudging you? Email KHUSA@fiveoakschurch.org.

Help New Life Family Services open its newest doors
New Life Family Services is opening a new location in Minneapolis’ Phillips neighborhood, and they need some help before they can open and begin taking new clients. Specifically, tasks such as assembling furniture and sorting and stocking donations for the clothing closet are in greatest need. They’re hosting a work day on October 15, 9 am-4 pm. Interested in jumping in to help, or have questions? Email Mina Lee.

Moms of babies and young children: This one’s for you
You may have noticed that we recently added a TV in the kids wing. What you may have not noticed is that we ALSO added a TV also to our mother’s room – which is located inside of the nursery. If you find yourself in need or want of a quiet room for yourself and young children, please know that is set up for you! This is a great way to stay connected to the service while taking a break from the main worship center.

Let’s taco ‘bout it
If you regularly attend our Saturday worship services, have you ever gone out for supper afterward?  If you love tacos, and you love our Saturday worship service, look no further. Join us Saturday, October 22 after the service for a time of tacos and community. Register ahead of time at www.fiveoaks.church/tacos. Questions? Email Danny Martin.

Serve with your own creativity...from home
Whether you write in your work or simply enjoy journaling, have you ever considered using your talents to write for our DailyLife team? This team creates our daily devotionals at Five Oaks. These short devotionals are loosely tied to our sermon series and arrive in email inboxes Monday-Friday. If you’d like more info, please email Danny Martin.

Help wanted: Small Group Leaders
Do you love to help new people connect in relationships? Do you love helping facilitate people growing in their faith? Small groups are one of the major ways we connect with our church family and grow in our faith. If you are interested in helping lead or co-lead a small group, we would love to help you do that. We have training and resources to ensure you are equipped and prepared to lead well! Email Jonathan Haage for more info.

Help make a student’s holiday less lonely

International students who are here in the Twin Cities often don’t have places to go for a holiday meal as they’re here for school and don’t have family nearby. The Hospitality Center partners with churches to serve a meal, have fellowship, and get to show love to these students. On November 19, you can help serve a Thanksgiving Meal which includes the final steps of food preparation, serving, kitchen clean-up, set-up/tear-down of the dining room, and time around the table getting to know international students. Interested? Email impact@fiveoakschurch.org

Congregational Meeting: Save the date!

Join us November 13 at 4 pm for our annual congregational meeting. You can look forward to worship, a short business meeting, and updates on what’s new and upcoming in our ministries. More info to follow, but for now, mark your calendar!
