Weekend of October 22+23

Your whole family can help feed the world

Did you know that packing meals at Feed My Starving Children is available to kids as young as 5 years old? Bring your family (and your neighbors!) to pack meals that will be distributed all around the world. We reserved twice as many time slots available to make it extra fun! October 29, FMSC in Eagan. The first packing session will start at 9 am; the second session starts at 11:30 am. Details and registration here. Questions? Email Dave Baar at impact@fiveoakschurch.org.

Kids Hope USA: Making a difference in Woodbury

For more than 10 years, Five Oaks has partnered with Kids Hope to provide the gift of mentorship to students at Woodbury Elementary School. A KHUSA mentor offers one hour each week to one student in need of emotional, social, and academic support beyond what s/he normally receives in the classroom and at home. Staff and parents share over and over again that the 1:1 attention and investment of a caring adult improves attitude, focus, performance, and confidence. One hour from you each week can change the trajectory of a student’s life right here in our community! Our ministry is currently recruiting mentors, prayer partners, and support for events and communication. Is God nudging you? Email KHUSA@fiveoakschurch.org.

The “sea of bags” is returning!
We’re looking forward to partnering again this year with Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities to provide Thanksgiving meals to those who cannot afford to purchase the staples for a holiday meal. AND! After two years of doing only monetary donations, we’re very excited to bring back actual grocery bags to collect groceries this year! Bags will be available to pick up in the commons starting November 5. Please return filled bags to church by November 20. Questions? Email Dave Baar, impact@fiveoakschurch.org.

Families: Important info for October 29+30
We can’t wait for the celebration that comes with our Faith Milestones during worship services on October 29+30. We have baptisms and dedications that weekend, and our whole church family celebrates what God is doing in those who are taking these steps. We know this is a celebration you want your children to be a part of, so elementary-aged kids will worship with their families that weekend. You may still drop your nursery and preschool kids off in Five Oaks Kids. Questions? Email Kelly Bauman.

Fall events your students won’t want to miss

Fall is a time of new rhythms in school, church, and our families. Within the busyness of the season, Five Oaks Students has two opportunities for students to grow deeper in community and in their relationship with Jesus. High school Camp Getaway, November 11-13, will be in a new location this year! We will be taking over Ironwood Springs Ranch, where students will participate in all the great camp traditions: lots of community building, great food, and skit night! Middle school Pumpkinfest, November 18, is also a great opportunity for students to invite their friends to an incredible event chock full of pumpkin games, food, and a llama named Bo. High schoolers are even invited to help serve at the event! Register for either event here.

Do you love to decorate for Christmas?

If you have a keen eye for decorating, a love for all things Christmas, or just like lifting heavy things 😂, please join our decor team to make our plans a reality as we transform Five Oaks to be Christmas-ready! We'll meet Saturday, November 19, 9 am-noon at Five Oaks. We need your help to bring trees and boxes down from storage, set up all those beautiful trees, and make our building festive and ready for the Advent season. Coffee and lunch are provided. Save the date and keep an eye out to register soon!

Story of God this fall and winter

The Bible tells one great story. And knowing this great story helps us to really understand more of the Bible as we read it and see it in its greater context. Come join one of our Story of God classes this winter to get a Biblical overview in six weeks and continue growing in your relationship with God. We have one class starting in November and four more starting in January/February! Dates and details here. Questions? Email Jonathan Haage.

Crafturday registration deadline extended!
If you love to craft, or even if you don’t but you just want a morning to drink coffee and chat with other ladies, join us for Crafturday on November 12, 9am to noon right here at Five Oaks. But hurry! Registration closes on October 30! Details and registration available on our website. Questions? Email women@fiveoakschurch.org.

Help make a student’s holiday less lonely

International students who are here in the Twin Cities often don’t have places to go for a holiday meal as they’re here for school and don’t have family nearby. The Hospitality Center partners with churches to serve a meal, have fellowship, and get to show love to these students. On November 19, you can help serve a Thanksgiving Meal which includes the final steps of food preparation, serving, kitchen clean-up, set-up/tear-down of the dining room, and time around the table getting to know international students. Interested? Email impact@fiveoakschurch.org.

Congregational Meeting: Save the date!

Join us November 13 at 4 pm for our annual congregational meeting. You can look forward to worship, a short business meeting, and updates on what’s new and upcoming in our ministries. More info to follow, but for now, mark your calendar!

In sympathy
Please join us as we lift up Henry and Lois Williams in prayer. They are mourning the loss of Lois’s mom, Dorothy Graber. A memorial service for Dorothy will take place at Five Oaks on Friday, October 28 at 10 am. Five Oakers are welcome to attend if they feel so led.
