Weekend of August 17+18

It’s baptism weekend!

Baptism is an important milestone in our faith journey, and we love to celebrate this as a church when our people take this step. Join us this Sunday, August 18, at 2 pm for a summer outdoor baptism celebration on the island at the University of Northwestern. (Remember to pack chairs or a blanket for your family!) Light refreshments will follow. Plan to stay and swim or play at the beach with your family! Not registered yet? Please do that here for each family member attending Note: We will have all of our regular worship services at church this weekend in addition to our outdoor baptism celebration.

Curious about the impact of our Impact Ministry?
Have you ever wondered about all the ways that our people are impacting our community and our world? Four times per year, our various Impact ministries gather for a meal and a time of storytelling, idea sharing, and prayer.  It’s a great place for you to join and get a pulse on Impact at Five Oaks. The next gathering is this Monday, August 19 at 6 pm at Five Oaks. Please let Dave Baar know if you’re interested in joining us at
impact@fiveoakschurch.org, or you can just show up!

Ladies: Find your place to belong at our Fall Kickoff
Are you curious about what’s offered in Women’s Ministry? Join us at the Five Oaks Women’s Kickoff and connect with other women, enjoy some treats, and get a sneak peek at the various opportunities available, from Bible studies to monthly TABLE, to Connect 4, to our winter retreat in February. Whether you’re new to Five Oaks or have been around for decades, we’d love to help you find your place to belong. August 20, 6:30 pm. Register here. Questions? Email women@fiveoakschurch.org.

Make a difference on your own time
Our fall kickoff and our new 4th worship service are just around the corner. If you haven’t yet plugged into a serve ministry, Five Oaks Kids still has openings, including simply being on the sub list. We have regular volunteers who have to miss every weekend and are always looking for people to stand in the gap. If you are open to being contacted when our regularly scheduled volunteers need a sub, please email Kelly Bauman.

Serve your neighbor in need at Dorothy Day

If you’d like to make a difference to our neighbors in St. Paul, join us to prepare and serve a meal at the Dorothy Day Center on Saturday, September 7, 9:30 am-1:15 pm. Interested? Please email Cindy and Tim Wiant, wiynts4riverfalls@gmail.com.  Tim and Cindy will get back to you with confirmation of your spot on our team and instructions on how to register. Volunteers need to be at least 14 years old.

Registration now open for Hearts and Hammers
Hearts and Hammers’ mission is to assist low-income homeowners struggling with deteriorating home exteriors by providing free exterior restorations through volunteers. These homeowners have often been on the waiting list for several years, so this is an exciting opportunity for everyone involved!  As a volunteer, you can expect fun, fellowship, and possibly learning a skill you didn’t know you had!  You’ll see how many hands make light work. All adults and kids ages 12 and up are welcome. No special skills required. This year’s event is on September 14. We kick off at 7:45 am, and typically wrap up around 2:30 pm. Lunch will be provided. Can't make it the whole day? Sign up anyway!  Details and registration here.

Serving the world right here at home
God brings the world to our doorstep at the universities in the Twin Cities. The Hospitality Center at the U of M and Concordia University connects churches with opportunities to serve international students in the name of Jesus. The start of fall semester is a prime time to check out new opportunities to serve. From airport pickups to short/long-term student hosting, to planning outings or 1-to-1 friendship matches, the options are endless. Interested? Find options at their volunteer site: Arrival Season - THE HOSPITALITY CENTER Still have questions? Email Dave Baar at impact@fiveoakschurch.org.

Students: Mark your calendar for the fall kickoff!
All 6-12th graders, join us on September 18 for the Five Oaks Students kickoff!
Middle school runs 6-8 pm and high school runs 7-9 pm. Five Oaks Students is a place for students to learn their place in God’s story by opening up God’s word and engaging in community. Each student is welcomed by leaders who create a space for fun and growth through worship, teaching, and small groups. Join us weekly and invite your friends! If you want to be on the weekly parent email, please email mwissink@fiveoakschurch.org.

High schoolers: register now for fall Camp Getaway!
Camp Getaway is one of our most impactful weekends, as it allows students to grow deeper in their friendships and make memories, learn more about why Jesus matters in their everyday life, and have a ton of fun in the process. Registration is now open: November 8-10 at Wood Lake Camp. Students can look forward to night games, skit night, great food, great worship, and meeting new friends. Lock in your spot here.
