Outdoor baptisms were a blessing to all
Last weekend we gathered with our church family to celebrate the important faith milestone of baptism. Twenty-one Five Oakers, ranging from age 6 to over 70 years old, were baptized in Lake Johanna, and all those present were blessed to hear their faith testimonies and learn how Jesus has worked in their hearts. We love to celebrate God at work in our church family!
Two important dates for families of Five Oaks Kids
As summer wanes and fall approaches, we have two weekend dates for your calendar: On August 31 and September 1 (Labor Day weekend), all 2nd-5th grade students will attend church with their families. Kids programing is still available for kids in the nursery through grade 1. On September 7 and 8, all students will move up to their next grade-level classroom. We’re planning some big fun and games for this “UP”-themed weekend! Our teachers are looking forward to seeing your kids back for the school year!
Make a difference on your own time
Our fall kickoff and our new 4th worship service are just around the corner. If you haven’t yet plugged into a serve ministry, Five Oaks Kids still has openings, including simply being on the sub list. We have regular volunteers who have to miss every weekend and are always looking for people to stand in the gap. If you are open to being contacted when our regularly scheduled volunteers need a sub, please email Kelly Bauman.
Men: join us at our pancake breakfast
This is an opportunity for you to connect with other men in our church and find out what’s happening in men’s ministry this year. David Myles, speaker, professor, and podcast host, will speak at the event, and you won’t want to miss it! And of course we’ll have pancakes, sausage, and coffee! Saturday, September 7. Doors open at 7 am, breakfast served at 7:30. Register at www.fiveoaks.church/pancakes.
Serve your neighbor in need at Dorothy Day
If you’d like to make a difference to our neighbors in St. Paul, join us to prepare and serve a meal at the Dorothy Day Center on Saturday, September 7, 9:30 am-1:15 pm. Interested? Please email Cindy and Tim Wiant, wiynts4riverfalls@gmail.com. Tim and Cindy will get back to you with confirmation of your spot on our team and instructions on how to register. Volunteers need to be at least 14 years old.
Registration now open for Hearts and Hammers
Hearts and Hammers’ mission is to assist low-income homeowners struggling with deteriorating home exteriors by providing free exterior restorations through volunteers. These homeowners have often been on the waiting list for several years, so this is an exciting opportunity for everyone involved! As a volunteer, you can expect fun, fellowship, and possibly learning a skill you didn’t know you had! You’ll see how many hands make light work. All adults and kids ages 12 and up are welcome. No special skills required. This year’s event is on September 14. We kick off at 7:45 am, and typically wrap up around 2:30 pm. Lunch will be provided. Can't make it the whole day? Sign up anyway! Details and registration here.
Students: Mark your calendar for the fall kickoff!
All 6-12th graders, join us on September 18 for the Five Oaks Students kickoff! Middle school runs 6-8 pm and high school runs 7-9 pm. Five Oaks Students is a place for students to learn their place in God’s story by opening up God’s word and engaging in community. Each student is welcomed by leaders who create a space for fun and growth through worship, teaching, and small groups. Join us weekly and invite your friends! If you want to be on the weekly parent email, please email mwissink@fiveoakschurch.org.
Healing from betrayal trauma for women
The pain and trauma created through sexual betrayal is devastating, but healing is possible. You are not alone…being able to process your experiences in a safe, grace-filled place — and working at a pace that encourages self-discovery — will empower you to make strides in your healing and quip you to make informed decisions for your future. We have a group starting this fall. If you have experienced this type of betrayal in your relationship, consider this path of healing in your life. We know this is a sensitive journey , so we have a specific way to reach out to our women’s group leader who has experienced this journey. Email puredesirewomen@fiveoakschurch.org and our Pure Desire leader here at Five Oaks will reach out.
High schoolers: register now for fall Camp Getaway!
Camp Getaway is one of our most impactful weekends, as it allows students to grow deeper in their friendships and make memories, learn more about why Jesus matters in their everyday life, and have a ton of fun in the process. Registration is now open: November 8-10 at Wood Lake Camp. Students can look forward to night games, skit night, great food, great worship, and meeting new friends. Lock in your spot here.

Join us in praying for our missionary partners this Sunday
Missionary prayer is this weekend! Join us as we pray for our mission partners between services on Sunday, August 25, from 10:15-10:45am in Room 102. We’ll pray over specific requests sent from our local and global mission partners. If this Sunday doesn’t work for you, we do it every month on the final Sunday. Not only is the power of prayer important, but also this is a great way to help make our mission partners real to us and get to know them a little better by partnering with them in prayer. Questions? Email Dave Baar, impact@fiveoakschurch.org.
Thank you to our summer interns!
It’s been a full summer for Sofie Arenz, Mallary Bauman, & Brooke McCormick! Our God faithfully met them where they needed to be met and led them on a journey this summer. From discussions with our missionary partners around the world, to their trip to Panama with our church family, and completely running our undie Sunday drive from beginning with their video to delivery, plus projects onsite at Five Oaks, we have all been blessed by their time and talent. God is so good! Thanks for praying with us for these young people this summer!
